Sir Philip Hart
To hear Esme hear it, Sir Philip Hart is the most evil man in all creation. The truth is more complicated than that. Sir Philip is, at worst, an uncaring lord. He is pre-occupied with his political and financial activities and views his lands solely as a source of income.
His seneschal, Henri de Lacey, on the other hand is a bit of a sadistic bastard, who views his lord’s focus on income and his lack of interest as a license to let loose.
In fact, Sir Philip is rarely resident on his lands, spending most of his time in Exeter (where he owns a town-house). This absence has made it easier for Henri to act as he does (although, it is questionable whether Sir Philip would take any action even if he knew – unless it interfered with one of his priorities).
